Cheryl Sommers, Odetta Holmes, Philip and Louise Baldwin Rieman PRESENTE! We are sorry to report that former Prisoner of Conscience Cheryl Sommers died yesterday.Cheryl was among the 37 people who were arrested at the Fort Benning military base in November of 2005 and was later sentenced in a federal court to three months in prison. Last month, three other SOA Watch supporters passed away: Odetta Holmes, was an American singer, actress, guitarist, songwriter, and a human rights activist, often referred to as "The Voice of the Civil Rights Movement". Odetta died on December 2, 2008 from heart disease in New York City. SOA Watch activists Philip and Louise Baldwin Rieman were killed on December 26, 2008 in a car accident on their way to a family gathering in Indiana. They were co-pastors of the Northview Church of the Brethren in Indianapolis. May they rest in peace! |
